The last fob is a recreation of one I made before for these scissors (I gave the original to Karen). I found this big heart clasp and it works great for thick handled scissors like these Ginghers. Lately I have been using sterling silver findings because I want my fobs to last a little longer than they have been. I don't know if it's the humidity or what, but they seem to tarnish fast down here in Florida. So we'll see if it works! I wonder if they do start to tarnish if I can just use silver polish? Something to look in to. I'm such a newbie at beading that I really don't know too much. Write later! :)
P.S. I've been cleaning out my cross stitch a little. Here's a link to what I have for sale!
Nice work! You wouldn't know you're a newbie to beading - you seem to have picked it up quickly!
ReplyDeletePick up a silver polishing cloth like this one. I got mine at Bed Bath, and it's been very handy.
Also, keep the little bags that beads often come in, or get some snack size ziploc bags and store fobs that aren't being used in them. It helps keep them from tarnishing.
I'd recommend checking online sources for silver findings (I have a few that I trust listed on my blog). I've found their prices to be MUCH better than what you can get in craft stores and even local beading shops. And the quality and selection is definitely better that what you find at Michaels or AC Moore.
Your fobs are just really beautiful! I just love mine that you sent to me and it is on my scissors now all the time!! Really pretty! I have wanted to try making some but my DH just had to try it first thing and I haven't done one yet. I want to though as they are so pretty and make such lovely gifts too. As soon as I get my round robin piece done, I may have to try making some! Yours are really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteNewbie at beading? Pish, posh! These are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGlad you joined the SAL :)
Tanya, who finished season 7 of GG last week and is still trying to cope LOL
Your new fobs are adorable!! When I was making some fobs I used a site called www.bluemud.com for alot of charms and beads, thought maybe you could use the site.

Beautiful job! The blue and green one reminds me of the ocean when we lived in Japan. I would have never guessed that you were new :)
ReplyDeleteSOOO PRETTY!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THE BLUE AND GREEN =]
They don't look newbie at all! They're stunning. The heart clasp is beautiful, what a great find!!
ReplyDeleteThey are all lovely Nicole!!
ReplyDeleteYour fobs are lovely and using silver findings is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest using a silver polishing cloth as Jennifer did. Your local fine jewellery store may have them if a BBT isn't handy. I've had mine for years and it's lasted really well. I'm just careful to put it back in it's bag so it doesn't get too dirty. They're so much easier to use than liquid polish especially for something so delicate.
They are all beautiful, Nicole - that heart clasp is adorable!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty fobs! I really like the heart clasp :)
ReplyDeleteWow, such pretty fobs!
