I got Sarah back out yesterday. I just love this sampler...
40 ct. Vintage Pearled Barley, Various silk threads (1 over 2).
It still blows my mind to think that Sarah was only nine when she stitched this. When I was nine I spent my time watching Brady Bunch reruns and playing barbies. Definitely not thinking of stitching a large sampler! :)
Sarah is BEAUTIFUL! I love those colors. I, too, have a hard time thinking that these little girls stitched such beautiful samplers at such a young age. I guess the era was just so different back then...You are such a fabulous stitcher...I always love to see what you're up to next! ENJOY!
LOL about barbies and Brady Bunch instead of stitching. Too true! I was doing the same (although sadly, I may predate the original Brady Bunch at that age--argh!), and certainly torturing my sister and playing "horsie" on the apple tree.
I have been kitting this one up Nicole, just have a few more threads and fabric to get. Are you happy with the pearled barley linen and the threads on it? I was worried the light colored threads wouldn't show up. My LNS doesn't carry R&R linens so probably I need to get a Lakeside color.
Your progress is great - I really love this sampler! I will have to Ann Grant that Theresa is also charting.
I think I fall in love with "Sarah Woodham" a little more each time I see this gorgeous sampler. Maybe I should have started stitching when I was nine. I would have had more time for all of the patterns I want to stitch!
But we must be about the same age, because I was doing the exact same thing as you were: watching the "Brady Bunch" and playing with Barbies. I think I also threw in some latch hooking and knitting, and I even made some of those woven pot holder thingies out of the loops that you stretched across that little square frame. (What were those called?)

ReplyDeleteOh, and I'm betting you're acquiring Ann Grant, so you're finishing up a SP that you've already started!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful piece Nicole and I love watching your progress. Such an amazing piece for such a young child to stitch back in the day. Hugs
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely so far!
ReplyDeleteYour fingers have been flying - are you sure you sleep at night?
ReplyDeleteGreat progress!
Happy Stitching!
Wow! I love your Sarah in my favorite colors!!! Fun borders, too. Very tempting...
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how young these girls were when they stitched these samplers? Times were really different, weren't they? Love your Sarah!
ReplyDeleteYep, Sarah is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteSarah is looking great! I just love that border!
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful Nicole. Isn't it true about TV watching and Barbies at that age. I'm always amazed at what children USED to accomplish.
ReplyDeleteJust Beautiful. My Hannah is almost done. The one over one on the verse is very time consuming and tedious. Well worth the effort though..
ReplyDeleteThat looks quite beautiful. Will love to see your progress.

ReplyDeleteYou are coming right along on your WIP. This is going to be beautiful. I love Samplers.
ReplyDeleteYeah when I was 9 years old I was running around and playing and getting into trouble. LOL.
Happy Stitching
Absolutely beautiful Nicole!!! I love this piece and your stitching is perfect. Take care, Faye
